University Laptop

[Mark floating in Space]

Hey guys!

 

I am looking for a replacement for my aging HP Envy 14. It has served me well but now it is time for something new. Unfortunately I am not very familiar with the laptop market and could really use some guidance.

 

My criteria:

- display: 13 to 15 inch 1080p/1440p IPS

- use case: uni (Matlab, QGIS); programming(Java, Arduino, python); web surfing

- IO: USB A (you kinda have to specify that nowadays haha); some sort of video out - HDMI would be nice

- SD card reader would be a big plus (don't care if fullsize or not)

- good build quality: I just can't stand plasticky laptops especially when I am surrounded by macbooks at my uni.

- 256-500gb SSD nvme

- small and light - not a big gaming laptop

- good track pad since I don't want to take a mouse with me everywhere. One made of glas would be ideal.

- backlit keyboard that is nice to type on.

 

Before everyone suggests the Dell XPS - I have seen it in person and... I don't really like it. I don't know what it is but it just isn't for me.

My budget is ~1500€ and I am located in Austria. It would be really awesome if you could help me out here. Any help is highly appreciated.

Not sure what options are available to you in Austria, but your specs aren't too difficult to meet. 

I have an ASUS Zenbook that would meet your specs and is aluminum.  If not that what about a lenovo Yoga?  The 910 series has everything you want too.
