Ok im sorry for creating another one of these threads but i would like to ask about recommendations for a keyboard that suits my own personal needs.

im currently a university student who is studying Software engineering. i will be doing TONS of programming in the future. My love for video games is quite high i play them all the time. If it matters i play alot of dota, strategy and fps games. i have never used a mechanical keyboard and really have no way of trying it. ive read and watched many videos on the kinds of switches, pros and cons but cant really make up my mind. besides Blues what kind of switches are you guys using and why?

i would like a small amount of macro keys for productive and/or media related functions (programmable by me if possible)

price range i would like to stay around $100

not that i care too much about this but is there anything like the steelseries apex series but mechanical??(disregard if it is a dumb question)

i saw some CM keyboards that look pretty nice but i want to know what else there is.

g710+

it has brown switches. I had only tried blues before and didn't like how clicky they were, so I figured browns were the way to go. Glad I got the g710+

yea seems like a good keyboard but at $150 its a little too far out of my range. Thanks though

Do you dislike the blues?

i use a Razer Blackwidow 2013($100 without the lighting) and its amazing to type on, i love the tactile feedback and it has a very satisfying click to it. i tried many of the other switches and these are very distinct compared to the others and felt the best to me.

I am currently using a Rosewill 9000 with MX Blues, and I love it. I plan on using this full keyboard for work, and getting a 60% keyboard, probably a KBT Poker, and replacing the switches with MX Whites. I want a really small, simple keyboard for my home setup. Rosewill makes great keyboards for the money; very sturdy, practically a Filco Majestouch, just rebranded. Great for a budget, or skeptical, like I was. Now, I'm converted to the mechanical master-race.

Cm Storm Trigger seems to fit nicely. It's a little out of your $100 budget, but only by $13 so it's still a viable option. Backlit with browns and a couple macro keys. :)
yea that's a good price. have u had experience with mx browns?

if i've learned anything from brands its to stay away from razer but ill give it a look. I somewhat need the backlighting though. the reason why i'm thinking of staying away from blues is the noise level tbh. i think i might go insane with all the clicking noises

Yep currently using them right now - feel awesome. Mind you, i have very limited experience with other switches, i've only owned 1 other MX blue board and only used that for about 2 weeks. Browns feel like the perfect balance for gaming and typing, so long as you don't bottom them out you should be fine.

Well at $100 you're going to compromise some quality for a backlight, if a backlight is so important you're best to look at CM Storm keyboards as they don't compromise too much sturdiness while having a backlight and are some of the cheapest keyboards with a backlight.( Not all of them have one though ) Currently typing on blues and I own a brown keyboard and they're both great you can't really go wrong with them, the clicking isn't too noticeable while gaming but if I'm just listening to music while doing tasks you'll slowly realize there's a clicking sound. Depends if you have headphones or not. I type faster on Blues but oddly enough more inaccurate compared to browns. If I were you, try to find a store that sells mechanical keyboards they should have them on display and try them out. As a LoL(MOBA) player I feel like there's no real difference between browns and blues but I feel a little more safer with blues because they're a little heavier and I won't burn a spell accidentally. I picked up my CM Storm QFR (QuickFire Rapid) for ~$65 on Amazon. No backlight but still a fabulous keyboard.

Amazon Prime just gives free 2 day shipping ( Not really you pay $80 a year but still nice if you purchase often from Amazon ) or cheaper 1 day, Saturday shipping.

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Mechanical-Keyboard-Tactile-High-Speed/dp/B009C98NPY

$108 for a backlit cherry mx brown keyboard.

Bottoming out is when you hit the backplate or the key won't go down any farther, there's the actuation point and then there's the rest of the length that doesn't do any good/worse for you. Heavier your hands are and the lighter the switch more often you'll bottom out. I bottom out rather often but switches that are really light such as Reds feel kind of gross if you have heavier hands/ come from membrane keyboards which require you to bottom out.

Yeah, sorry what Shikarikato said. I was saying that the sound they make when you bottom them out is loud, so if you want quietness with browns, they will be quiet so long as you don't bottom out. If you're a heavy typist, then the sound will be very noticeable and you're better off going with blues. It can take some time to get used to mechanical switches and only pressing a little bit (to the actuation point) and not pressing the whole way.
