I just recently realized that my build will need a wireless adapter (I do not have access to an ethernet cable). Could anyone suggest a good "bang for your buck" wireless card fast enough for semi-competitive gaming? Thank you.

I would strongly suggest a PCI-e adapter, both of the USB adapters that I have used in the past have been absolute nightmares. I've used the TP-Link AC1900 for two years now, but it's a bit overkill for my needs. I'd suggest checking out the lesser AC1300 at https://smile.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-Express-Adapter-TL-WDN4800/dp/B016K0896K.

I personally got an asus pe 55 bt ( i think) its based off an intel 8260ac wifi card. I picked it up on sale from my local retailer.

I would recomend choosing one that is based off a fundamentally good wifi card, eg intel 7260/8260 or qualcomm/atheros.

Choosing one with an antenna that is on a wire for better reception.

Choosing a PCI-e add in card.

Make sure you get one that supports 802.11ac for max speed.
