So I recently changed ISPs (Bell DSL to TechSavvy Cable), when I did I bought a new modem as suggested by TechSavvy (mine was very old). When I first tried to set it up there was no connection even though according to the ISP the modem was online. This went on for about a week until they sent a tech over to check it out. Low and behold that morning the modem got a connection and the internet had started working before the tech even arrived. So we had internet for about a week but today the modem lost it's connection again. There are no reported internet outages and it's definitely the modem not the router.

 

Any idea what might be the problem? Is it possible the modem is faulty?

Does your computer get an IP address from the router? Can you login to the router and check the connection state to your ISP? There should be somewhere that gives you that information.
