Windows 8.1 Problem

Go to solution Solved by Uehm,

Hi again. I seem to be able to get into Windows now. Followed some more commands on a post I found which fixed it. (This post for future reference)

The only problem I'm faced with now is that the monitor won't get detected. I'm running a dual monitor setup, and the second monitor (a smaller one) worked. The second one is using VGA cable, and the main, primary one is using HDMI. I don't have another HDMI cable (as far as I'm aware) to test it. I got it working while I was doing the commands to fix the OS, but as soon as I rebooted it and got into Windows, it didn't work. Again, I'm at a lost for what to do at this point. Unplugging the second monitor doesn't seem to fix it either. I'm going to try to start up Windows and see if the monitor is even being detected by Windows.

Thanks for any help, and happy thanksgiving,

Uehm

Hi, I dunno if this is supposed to be in the operating forum or this one. I obviously chose this one.

anyways,

I came on originally to ask about another problem: but apparently I'm faced with another one. I recently got a new GPU (thing about that will be coming soon) and had problems with it. I got into Windows 8 with my pre-exisiting GPU, and everything was fine. Tried running it again an hour or so later and everything started to break. I was faced with an error message stating that Windows 8 needs to be repaired. I did not change any of the drives or anything affecting Windows beforehand yesterday or today. Everything was fine in previous months, weeks, days, etc, before I got the new GPU and started changing them out. I read that I could use my windows 8 install disk for system repair - which I did.

I tried doing automatic repair, refresh, and restart -- none of them worked. I looked online. I found no solutions. I'm obviously at a lost at what to do now. I was given a screen where it said my hard drive was locked. I looked at some articles at Microsoft saying that I enabled something and have to put in my security card or something -- I've never heard of a security card for the operating system before.

I'm completely lost on what to do at this point. I'm using my laptop right now, and this isn't ideally how I'd like to spend my long weekend.

Thanks for any help,

Uehm

You probably enabled bitlocker in Windows 8. What error message are you getting and tried reinstalling drivers?

Did you uninstall your old drivers?

Like below, I didn't have the brainpower to apparently uninstall my old drivers as I got the new GPU to work the first time. (Apologies if this came off as sarcastic, just had a rough time with this. :/ )

It just said that my hard drive was locked and I need to unlock it. I only got the old GPU working once (it fit into it's spot once) and I didn't have any time to reinstall drivers. The old GPU, I just tried turning it on to see if it was seated properly. I didn't think of re-installing the drivers for it.

I've actually had no problems with Window 8 (in general) up until this point.
