all good, 6XX is my choice although you might need an AMP and/or DAC for them to perform to their true potential

They can be either, but they sound better open then closed. They have wood pieces that can be removed to make them open.

That's pretty cool actually... so you could (kinda) use them on a subway or something if you really wanted to.

Everyone is different and will prefer different things. Don't get HD598's to start with when HD558's are so much cheaper, though. You won't regret owning HD6XX's; they have a unique signature that won't offend anyone's tastes and don't do anything poorly. Based on your last threads I think you'd be better off with HD600's if you can get them for the same price.

Nobody will know what's best for you until you try something out. Try trying something out. Check your local subreddit(s)/universities/Craigslist for audition opportunities, visit an audio store. Listen to the things you're considering buying, see if you'd like to have them or if you think spending this much on audio is worth it (it's not for everyone). You're the only one who knows everything about your preferences.

IMO it's not worth waiting until December and would get the K7XX or try finding a used pair of Senn HD580/600/650/6XX's. You may feel waiting longer for the better valued HD6XX's is worth it. All up to you.
