7700k High temps

superidot

So in short I cant tell if my problem is my 7700k or my dark rock 3

I have gone through a few things including voltage and reseating the heatsink

I did notice my motherboard has a screw that seems to be in the way of the heatsinks backplate making it stick out a bit

specs 7700k

Temps? Kabylake does have major thermal issues (So much so that Intel advises owners not to OC), dont think there is alot you can do other than de-lidding it (Can drops temps up to 30c).

What was the load? If that was Prime95, it seems not reasonable for an air cooler of that size.

While I'm not familiar with the mount of that particular cooler mount, most I've experienced on Intel have 3 holes in a triangle on the back, which should line up with the three screws poking on the backplate. Just be careful not to get it the wrong way around so they conflict.

Gaming system: R7 7800X3D, Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming Wifi, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB, Corsair Vengeance 2x 32GB 6000C30, RTX 4070, MSI MPG A850G, Fractal Design North, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Productivity system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, 64GB ram (mixed), RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, random 1080p + 720p displays.
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

50s is fine (Albeit warm for that cooler, hot chip as I said though), can probably get away with a moderate overclock as is (Keep it under 90c).

the top is fine and the screws kind of nestle into foam, the 3rd longer one has gone straight through it and I can see a mark on the plastic where it is butting up into it

that was 5 mins under load at 4.2 ghz, also the high was 80c. If I put on the 4.5 stock boost and went a bit longer id hit 90c

What is it conflicting on? If you align the cutouts to the protrusions on the base plate the 3rd one of the triangle should fall outside I think.

I could take a picutre of how it is currently on, the bottom half of the plate dosnt touch the board. the 3 screws that come out of the motherboard are uneven causing the plate to not be flat.

Can't be sure without seeing it, I think you might just need to remount the back plate rotated 90 degrees so the mobo screws miss the backplate.
