REinstall windows. Don't use your old AM3 install on the Intel. It will cause issues.

DOwnload the drivers you need onto a usb stick so You have them handy in case you can't get to the internet

Prepare a USB stick to install windows, place your drivers on it also (8gb stick works good).

Then hook up your parts if you are using your old system drive back up your data then reinstall windows

So I'm confused. I don't want to go through so much effort to do this. Can I just put the parts in, Then just wipe to a clean install of windows from windows itself?

Swap Mobo and CPUs. Boot up, and test out.  Is something broke due to drivers?  Download and fix them.

Otherwise do as they say above and fresh install.

Be ready to call Microsoft to reactivate your windows install.  The install is tied to the motherboard and swapping it will probably prompt you to activate the install.  You should be able to call them and have them do it over the phone. Having your activation key will help.

My question is: If it doesnt boot: should I just make an install of windows on a USB just incase?

Yes.  If it doesn't boot then that is really your only option.

Windows 10 now links it to your Microsoft account so you can activate it that way.

i5 6600k @ 4.4ghz on Hyper 212 Evo

Powercolor RX 480 8Gb Red Devil @1330Mhz

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe

Only if your using a Retail Key.

If you did not buy Windows 10 media at the store ( if you did then you should have boo-table media already) it will not work with the new mother board.

Don't waste time calling Microsoft either they will only help if you have a store bought ($100+) retail copy of Windows.

So once you get it installed either buy a windows 7 oem key (since they are cheaper then Windows 10) and activate windows 10 with that key.

YOu could just run windows 10 without activation
