Advice on which laptop to go with

Go to solution Solved by edit1754,

The MSI GP62MVR and that version of the Dell Inspiron 7567 both use low quality TN displays with poor contrast and viewing angles. This is certainly very poor for this price point I would say, and wouldn't advise going with either. They're like the left side of this photo: http://imgur.com/Sajajqc.jpg

GP62MVR

- The 3GB GTX 1060 is lower than the 6GB one in performance primarily due to a slower core -- the memory difference is a bit of a red herring. It's still higher than a 1005 Ti, but I would not choose the MSI GP62MVR for the aforementioned display reason.

- For a relatively cheap GTX 1060 laptop with a not-terrible screen, I would look at the Clevo N850HP6 through Eluktronics (IPS 72% NTSC color gamut display, Sager uses IPS 45% NTSC) or the Acer Helios (IPS 45% NTSC display).

- If you like the look of the MSI, I would try to find a GT62VR (great) or at least a GE62VR (still has IPS display). MSI is 2016/2017's biggest mixed bag. They have some of the best options out right now, as well as some of the poorest ones.

Dell Inspiron 7567

- The model you linked has the poor TN display but not all of them do, you just have to watch out. The following have the better display

http://www.dell.com/en-us/member/shop/productdetails/inspiron-15-7567-laptop/dncwf510s (usually cheaper, like $1077 -- could look for a coupon)

- The battery life is great on this model, just watch out for the display.

So, i'm looking to get a gaming laptop that will run most games on medium to high at 1080p 50-60 fps. I have found two laptops that I can't really decide between. Any advice?

Dell
comes with more ram
comes with an SSD boot drive

even though its a GTX 1050ti (compared to the 1060) i feel like the 4GB vram of that card will help you more in the long run

heres a review that might help

edit: this review unit has less ram and a i5 instead of an i7...so your Dell will be even better

edit 2: the Dell is heaver than the MSI laptop - if that matters to you

edit 3: i personally like the look of the MSI laptop better, only one lame badge on the lid and one line of red accent

also: if you go with the MSI laptop, make sure you uninstall all the bloatware that it comes with, it will really bog down your performance if you dont

My main reason for liking the MSI is because of the better performance of the 1060, but the 128gb SSD, better battery life, and slightly better i7 make me want the Dell. Do you think that the 1060 3gb version is that much better than the 1050ti in most games to sacrifice not having the SSD and better battery?

Thanks guys, I went with the Inspiron. It has the same specs as the one from best buy, except it has an IPS display.
