So I got all my parts for my first build,

MOBO: MSI B350 Tomahawk

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1400

RAM: Corsair 8GB

GPU: EVGA 1050ti

PSU: Corsair CX600

I went to put it together today, and when I start it up the red LED light on the DEBUG area for the CPU is staying on for about 10 seconds and then turns off but nothing displays on the screen. The motherboard is brand new straight out of the box along with the CPU. I'm not sure if I need to update the BIOS on it first or not.

If I remember correctly, AMD systems take quite a while to POST for the first time out of the box. How long did you wait for it to POST before calling it quits?

about 5 minutes or so. should i wait longer than that. i am new at building computers.

No, that's personally too long I'd say. I know it may take about 15-25 seconds or longer on the first POST but 5 minutes is too long. What lights did you say were illuminated on your motherboard when you first turned it on? And within that time did any lights flash or flicker during the post?

Double check the 24pin / 4/8pin EPU connector on your motherboard and make sure those are connected, check your fan and make sure the connector is secure, ensure your boot devices have power and are connected to the proper sata port or M.2 port if applicable... I'm not sure of anything else you could check.

I understand. Can you also check your ram and make sure that it's seated properly, in the correct slots as per your motherboard manual?

Everything is in and in the correct slot. Also nothing flickered at all. The only light that came on, on the motherboard was the CPU debug light.

I did some searching online and found out that some people with the same board actually had to flash the BIOS because the CPU wasn't directly supported, I also found out that the RAM may be the culprit. Ryzen systems are very finicky with what kind of ram you're feeding them. Even though it fits in the slot, the motherboard / CPU may not agree with it.

This is where I found some information.

Thank you. Also is there any way to flash the BIOS without a CPU or should i take the motherboard back to the store where i bought it and get them to do it.

On of the guys I know also has a ryzen cpu and corsair ram and his computer works fine.

Not a problem. Maybe if you take it back to the shop and explain your predicament, they may be kind enough to offer to flash the BIOS for you, if not troubleshoot it and figure out the root cause.

You could also ask that same "guy" if they can offer their CPU to you to see if it'll work with your motherboard. There may just be a simple compatibility issue that we're all overlooking.

Ok. Thank you for the help.

No worries, best of luck. Let me know what happens with the build!

They got it working. Thanks for the help. I still don't understand what was wrong with it though. :)

I also got everything up and running smoothly tonight as well after I got it back from the shop.

That's so weird. Well at least you have a working system now! Enjoy it! :D
