When I updated from windows 8.1 to 10 the update did not go well and I got some corrupt files. Now I can't open the control panel and many programs don't work. Even at startup I get similar messages about applications. I tried doing a reinstall but it gives me this error :-

"The file 'autorun.dll' could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup could not continue. Error code is [0x36B3]"

How do I fix this.

Best Excuses:

#1(simple) "Well, I never liked that stupid thing anyway!"

#2(complex) "Obviously there was a flaw in the material, probably due to the inadvertent introduction of contaminants during the manufacturing process."

I honestly never recommend doing an upgrade to a different os (newer) , there tends to be more issues than it's worth.

What kind of laptop are you using ? Most brands have a key built into the BIOS that have upgrade rights to windows 10, you can easily download a clean OEM ISO from Microsoft and perform a clean install.

I would just recommend doing a backup of applications and your personal data, from there you can just do a fresh install which is clean and simple. Most of the basic drivers will default with a Windows 10 install and once it's connected to the Internet it will usually download the correct drivers. Depending on your laptop manufacture, you will have SCCM packages available.
