Mic stops working

So, Ive recently been having issues with my mic. I thought it was the mic itself that was dying so I went to purchase a new one, but upon closer inspection I found that when I restart my pc the mic works for a short time (~10mins) but stops after I start a game or that time period elapses. It persists and is a problem across several programs (Teamspeak and Discord) but is always fixed by restarting my pc. Ideas?
