Kernel Power Error?

So recently, my computer started to shut down/restart by itself. I've already changed my Power Supply, but its still giving me this error.

 

I've also went in the Advanced System Settings and in the Start up and Recovery settings, I've unchecked the automatic restart.

 

My PC is also not overclocked, I have returned it to default settings and temperatures are remaining cool.

 

I don't know how else to troubleshoot this :(. Please help.

Have you reinstalled Windows?

Ehh Event ID 42 kernel power errors can be caused by a plethora of different issues. 

 

Driver issues, GPU going out, RAM issues... Are you running the latest version of the video driver(probably try a clean installation of your video drivers)? Is your RAM running at it's advertised speeds or below it? What were you doing when the random crash and restarts are occurring? 

 

EDIT: Forgot to mention, you should also check out your windows power settings. Make sure it's on maximum performance. You can run a RAM stress test as well to get faulty ram out of the way. Do you have more than two audio drivers installed at the same time in device manager? If so try disabling one.

Not yet, I would like to try that last so that my files won't get deleted.

I have used the Memtest in windows to test the ram, it says its ok. I am running all latest drivers for my GPU, installed using Geforce Experience.

 

The restarts just happen randomnly, just about anything I do, it just randomnly restarts. And I only have 1 Audio driver installed.

It's always seems tricky to me whenever I'm dealing with a Kernel Power Error - Event ID 41 error Task(63) issue because it could be hardware related or software related.

 

So it'll restart if you just leave the computer alone?

Well, it restarts even if im doing something. Basically it just restarts randomnly

Make sure and back up your files first, then they won't get deleted.

Yeah, I guess. But, I would like it to be the last resort :(. Does reinstalling windows usually work?

If it's an OS problem (sounds like it if it's a kernel error) then yes, it normally fixes those. If it doesn't then you've got a hardware problem.

Do I have to reinstall windows through a bootable usb drive? Or the refresh windows here in the settings of win 10 is fine?

I'd reinstall it from a USB drive, so you start with a fresh ISO of Win10. And for at the hard drive, so it doesn't make any problems for you.

Do i just pick, Upgrade this PC? or Create installation media?

Create installation media. Make sure and back up the files on your USB drive to a different PC, since the USB an HDD will get formatted, the USB now, and the HDD when you install.

Strange, it gives me the option to pick Pro whenever I do it. Maybe contact MS support.
