Hello guys,

I have x4 500gb Sata3 2.5" hard drives that I'd like to use in RAID 10 through the eSATA port of my router as my Network Drive solution for backups, multimedia storage, etc.

I understand that a RAID 1+0 will only give me 1TB of usable space,  but this should be plenty for my use. Now, this would be my first time doing anything with RAID so feel free to stop me if anything I say makes no sense.

Would this device for example allow me to do so? I am thinking that since it'll be hooked up directly to the router, the docking station needs to be able to set up the RAID configuration for me as the router will only read it as a hard drive and won't allot me to do any configuration. Alternatively, would it be possible to set up the dock through software on my Windows PC, and then hook it up the router?

I'm trying to get this done for as little as possible, as this is for personal use only.

Thank you in advance,
Fede

That device doesn't look like a raid controller. Looks like just a docking station that would be able to read drives already configured in Raid (for getting data off)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also this is external. Why would you keep drives in raid externally?

I think that will allow you to set it up as raid.  I would download the manual before you buy it and make sure.  Even if it does support it though, I'm not sure I would recommend it.  It doesn't exactly scream "stabile" to me.

You might just try going to a GoodWill or Salvation Army and seeing if they have any older computers for cheap.  Then you can use windows dynamic drives to setup a raid volume.
