So first of all, the upgrades I'm looking to do are aimed towards music recording/editing as well as gaming. Currently, I have:

MSI GTX 970 GPU

8gb DDR3 RAM

i5 4690k @ 4.2gHz

MSI Z97 PC MATE motherboard

Corsair CS550 PSU

Hyper 212 Eco cooler

I'm not overly fussed about my GPU, I'm more looking towards the CPU, however that'd require new mobo, ram and then probably psu. What would you guys recommend? I don't really have a budget as I am saving towards it so will save what I need, however I am a student :( torn between Ryzen or Intel, as I have read that Intel is better under heavy use? I know I want 16gb RAM, and an i7 if I go with Intel but that's it. Hit me with some ideas!

Thanks!

Edit: I am in the UK! :)

Budget? The i5 would still be fine for light 1080p video rendering, it depends how committed you are to it. If you do it alot, R5/R7 would be good options.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

No budget! And I'm recording music (to film), so the problem is having no latency when recording, and needing to bounce 40+ audio tracks down with 1080p videos

At this point I'd go with a Ryzen 5 or 7, they have all the threads you need for content creation and are a good price. Anything up from a 1600 you'd be happy with but that depends on how much you're willing to spend.

This motherboard is good quality and a good price too, and you don't need to upgrade your PSU, it'd happily support a GTX 970 and even a Ryzen 1800X.
