Open powershell and type:

shutdown /r /t 5

That will restart the computer after 5 seconds, a legit restart. Not the same as pressing the power symbol and clicking "restart". After your computer comes back up, try checking for updates then.

Just now, NinJake said:

Right click the "start" button on the taskbar, and left click "system". The window that pops up should show some basic information, such as PC name and then "version". You are looking for "version".

this is all i see, am i blind? xD

firewall is off also is this the version im looking for?

Left click start button on taskbar. Type "system information" and press enter. There should be version information there as well. I would also check your firewall and disable them, try to update and you can turn firewall back on afterwards.

Then for whatever reason, your issue is the fact you can't contact Microsofts servers.

Try pinging these.

Or, see if you have DNS issues.

If you cannot access those sites then you most likely have installed software such as ShutUp10 or SpyBot Anti-Beacon

You need to undo these changes those software have done

Or you can just open you hosts file (as adminstrator) located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and remove those domains from that file.

I cant give you step by step as I do not know what has caused this.

I am only assuming you have followed a guide or installed some software, (like the ones I mentioned in my post) at some point to prevent Windows Telemetry and/or Windows Update services from running and this is what I suspect has caused this issue with your windows install unable to run Windows Update.

If you cannot figure out what you have done or know how this happened in the first place then consider reinstalling windows.
