Hey guys, I ordered the Hyper X cloud 2 headset just yesterday and have watched some videos on microphone quality. basically, from what I gather the USB DAC it comes with is bad.

On my desktop, I have a Sound Blaster Z Sound card. My question is, the headset comes in a single audio cable that has both microphone and headphones in one.

If I plug the cable into just the microphone port on my sound card will it work both as headphones and mic? Or is there some splitter cable that splits it into two so I can use the headphone amp port as well for output.

I know I can potentially get way better quality sound with my sound card, but I don't know exactly how I can go about doing this with a single cable.

Thanks, I would appreciate any input I could get.

I think a splitter might work, otherwise you're gonna need an actual headphone+mic combo port.

Thanks for the input. It seems that since i'll be using the splitter before it plugs into the headphone amp, it will have very little impact on the headphone quality and provide much better microphone isolation. This should help out a lot.

This is the splitter I picked up: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Headphone-Splitter-Computer-Smartphone/dp/B00Y4663GG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1499878390&sr=8-3&keywords=headset+mic+splitter

Thanks again.

just a note, you could have gotten the hyperx cloud 1 or pro/core whatever the name is for like 30-50 bucks cheaper, doesn't come with usb soundcard but is the same except the audio/mic is already split and comes with extension so you can reach  the back of your pc.
