I know this isn't really related to here, but people here actually know things about chip making etc unlike in the phones and tablets forum....

so what I wanted to ask is, why do Qualcomm do not use their latest process technology (node) on all of their new products?

for example, the Snapdragon 820 and 435 came about the same time, the 820 has Node 14 nm and the 435 has node 28 nm...but why? who the hell in 2016 uses 28 nm node?!

it should be cheaper, consume less and create less heat for a 14 nm Snapdragon 435 chip!

Like that the GT 1030 and the GTX 1080 Ti uses the same node (of course, since they belong to the same series) and the GT 1030 is stronger, consumes less and creates less heat the the 750 Ti and costs way less than him...all because it uses a 14 nm chip against the 28 nm chip the 750 Ti is.

so, does anyone know the reason?

Not well informed on the subject matter of chip production, but I would assume its a marketing strategy to increase profits.

Ok, but why would it increase profits?

they can still sell it for the same price, but at least it will consume less and create less heat...also more money for them since it would be cheaper to make.

It could possibly be that they are just pricing the ones with the smaller manufacturing process at a premium price while the chips with the larger manufacturing process are priced at a reasonable production cost price, therefore creating a larger profit margin.

maybe....I still think that its stupid to not make all of them on the most advanced Node (it cant hurt them that's for sure...they can place them with the same price tag and performance and earn even more).

BTW another question this time related to the forum, Zen 2 will come out 2018 right? about the same time Coffee lake should appear?
