If you use the Reset Windows feature, Windows will go back to how it was when it was freshly installed. It will still run Windows 10, even if you upgraded. You shouldn't need a key for that.

i am wanting to wipe my main hard drive without losing windows 10 so i am wondering if i use the "Reset this PC" feature in the settings will i need to put in a windows 10 key. they problem i have is i used the free upgrade to windows 10 from windows 7 whenever it first came. 

 

would i need to buy a windows 10 key or do i just use my windows 7 key??

If for some reason the Reset feature complains about something missing, you'll need a Windows 10 install media (i.e., Install disk or USB thumb drive) to get it working.
