I wasn't sure what thread to put this in, but does anyone know of a good standalone front I/o? I'm doing a desk pc build, and I'm not sure what to use. I've searched to no avail.

What do you mean standalone I/O?

Whoops I meant to put this in the cases thread.

Is there any way I can move it?

I reported it so a mod will move it.

Thank you!

And I mean front power/reset buttons, usb 2/3, audio jacks, etc. that I can simply mount to the inside of a desk.

I think sites like http://www.performance-pcs.com/ has vandal switches you can use for Power/Reset. they may also have stuff for USB and Audio. you can try salvaging from a old case.

for the power and reset you can wire any button you like to it all you have to do is short them to ground and they will trigger

Alright.. So it looks like I'll be using individual buttons instead of one unit?

you can sometimes find 2 in one buttons and most io units ive seen go into the dvd tray so they don't have power buttons

Just wanna point out if you don't want to salvage or go super DIY there's preassembled stuff available on places like Newegg. Example for power/reset buttons: https://m.newegg.com/products/9SIABR04YT8344

Thanks! This sort of thing is exactly what I was looking for!

No worries. You'll kind of have to buy the stuff you need seperately, since the people buying this stuff have different needs, but most of it should be pretty simple.

Depending on your Mobo I'd assume power/reset switches, power/activity LEDs, USB 2.0 header to type-A cables, USB 3.0 header to type-A cables, Intel HD Audio to 3.5mm jack cable, and the like should all easy to find with just a Newegg search.

USB 3.1 header (the new style) to type-A or type-C cables will be harder to find just because the standard is so new and demand is much lower.

Do you have any idea how other people have mounted these sorts of components in the past? I obviously have more googling to do!

I have an old Maximus VI Hero motherboard so I'm assuming it won't be compatible with the new style usb anyway.

Think a normal case. How do they mount it?

On the premium end you could 3D print mounts and screw it into the desk.

On the low end you can do what most budget case manufacturers do and just hotglue it into place.

Glue gun option is probably easiest but might not look the cleanest if it's visible inside the desk.
