My brother is about to order parts for his new PC. I just wanted to check here before we order to make sure that everything looks good. If there are any last minute changes that you would make let me know. Don't change parts just because you feel like it, change parts if there's a better value. We won't be buying the graphics card right now because of mining.

@theninja35 2 random quotes does not make a good forum post. I have no clue about what you are trying to say here. If he buys all those components minus GPU, he can't use the system. Might take a few months before prices on GPU's might start to drop. And during that time, all the other components might also have dropped. (very likely in my opinion) Sooo... Why buy that system minus GPU right now?

@theninja35 Having "ninja" in your name doesn't help here. I wasn't asking about why he/she isn't buying a GPU. I was asking why he would buy them other components. If he had a spare GPU, he should have told us, because if this is all the hardware he will have, it's useless/not worth buying, since it can't be used. (without GPU)

If he does have a GPU, he should have told us. But besides of that... It's most likely in his current pc. Then you would need to know what his current pc is and what if it's being used for. If that (old) computer is being used for gaming and just watching youtube... And if his current CPU can make the current GPU hit ~100%, he will most likely not notice an huge improvement. >>> again not worth to buy ALL of those components right now. (only thing I would personaly buy from the list, to get a temporarily boost to performance for an older PC, would be them drives)

Mentioning my name is something pathetic that I get from angry twelve-year-olds in shooters. Why would you say that?

Having hold-over GPUs is an extremely common thing, I didn't have a full-blown GPU until 6 months after I purchased and put together all my other parts. If I can wait and buy the GPU for at least $50 less than I can now, why would I buy it now? There's absolutely no reason to be buying a GPU just to buy a GPU. Not everyone needs to spend their money right away like a kid who just got his allowance.

Without the GPU, the system may be just as powerful as OP's existing computer. In this case, it wouldn't be a good use of money to buy the rest now because the overall cost may have dropped in 6 months or whatever timescale they're thinking. They'd have spent extra for no benefit.

I edit my posts a lot.

@theninja35, meet logic. Maxing out old GPU in old pc = max performance from said GPU in most games, if gaming is the task topic starter is going for.

Putting said old GPU which already hit it's max in a new updated system = not that much of an improvement for said tasks.

It's Better to wait with the purchase of other hardware, untill you can get a GPU that fits the rest of the hardware in your usecase. During the waiting period, mining craze might slow down, make GPU's moar affordable. And since you buy your other components later, those prices will most likely also be cheaper.

So: all-round much cheaper pc which you can instantly use after purchase, "to it's intended limits". If you can't even understand that, let me get an example.

I'm using an AMD A8 APU, with 2 gb of ram dedicated to graphics. I use onboard graphics, because my onboard graphics are better then my passive cooled GTX 610 GPU. Not using my GPU = better for my current pc.

Lets say I buy all this hardware minus the GPU, and I put in the old GPU... It will work. Yes I will safe me (for example) $50 because I don't buy the GPU during the mining hype. But if I would do that, gaming performance would be even worse then with my old pc.

Putting an old GPU which was already at it's limits into a new pc, where you intent to play games and such, where you actually use your GPU to it's max, it's not worth the other pc components upgrade.

Not sure I'd trust some of those brands, but +1 to buying a 980ti for better value.

He told you, he doesn't buy a GPU because they're expensive right now. Asking that question doesn't make a good forum post when he's already answered it...

He very likely has another GPU and if he doesn't then you should be asking if he has another GPU, not why he's not buying one.

Thank you!

I failed to mention that I have an old gt730 that he can use until GPU prices become reasonable again. I should have said that, but I made this post in a rush.

Other than that, since you are the only person that didn't turn this into a flame war, what do you think of the PC?

@theninja35 Seems people don't learn to read in MotorCity.

"But if I (eye) *me, not someone else* would do that..."

And then I explain why it would be bad for ME, in MY situation. I was giving you an example, which you did not understand due to MotorCity language skillz.
