I have searched a bit but can't quite find exactly what I want so I have come for help. I have small home virtual server (Proxmox) that I use to play around with and share media files around the house. My current client backup method is copy and paste files to network shares, when I remember... Fail. I have ended up with a few copies of the same files which is not a good solution. Can someone recommend a better solution to this? My main concern is lightweight and easy on the client side.

My idea would be to have a dedicated OS and storage on the server with a nightly or weekly backup of client user files. Although I am unsure of how to do the backup, or software to use. Basically I am looking for something that will check for updated files on the client and backup the new/changed files to the server. I would prefer not to have software running in the background all the time but if that is the only way I guess. I thought about a scheduled scripted but is there a better way? What would you do for a simple backup solution?

Thanks!

what os? You could use task schedule / cron to use cmd/terminal to back up the files. I use limux so i can't recommend any windows software but Deja dup is what i use.

Awesome! was able to get Freefilesync to work, don't know how I missed it.

Task Scheduler to run once a week when connected to my network. Batch file that maps password protected network drive, runs Freefilesync, disconnects mapped drive. Don't think it can get it simpler than that. Only downside side is network user and password is in the batch file but oh well, just don't look in there ;)

Thanks!
