So I'm wondering if anyone has ever had an issue like this before. I'm assuming that my problem is related directly to my 4790k but here's what's going on. About 3 weeks ago I had a power outage, when I kicked my rig back on afterwords my CPU was running at close to 90C even with my H100i hooked up to it. I turned the whole rig off and when I did there was a short spark on the board. I got a power indicator light but it wouldn't turn on. Upon closer inspection I noticed that one of the traces looks like it blew. So I went out today and picked up the only board I could find locally that supported LGA 1150 which was an MSI H81M-E33. Updated the BIOS, threw windows on to a new hard drive and thought all was fine...until I started checking temps. Super hot again. Swapped out for stock cooler just to make sure it wasn't my cooler. Same thing. Went into the BIOS to tweak around and ended up having to drop to 1 core so I could keep the thing cool enough to check what it's doing with software. CPUZ as well as HW monitor and the Intel overclocking utility are showing the Core Voltage at 1.79 volts. Which is insane. Unfortunately this motherboard doesn't allow me to adjust the core voltage. Did run a couple of tests to make sure nothing else was effecting my system. Tried three different power supplies, pulled all the video cards out. I'm running a single stick of Corsair Vengance DDR3 RAM and no matter what I do, I can't find a way to stop the CPU from drawing so much voltage. Does anyone think it's the processor itself since I had the heat issue with my last motherboard, or is this board just junk and way overvolting my CPU? Or possibly something else that I haven't thought of? I appreciate any input. I'd at least like to have my media server running while I start my rebuild.

1.79 would KILL the CPU ..

Goto Intel and explain the situation, and ask for RMA (3 year warranty)

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

I thought the same thing, and yet everything I check claims it's true, and as long as I don't do anything that puts a load on the system, it sits right around 50C.

Of course the temperature is low when the CPU is not doing anything.... even with massive voltage
