I've been considering a video card upgrade for a little bit as I have been experiencing below-satisfactory performance in games such as Rust (dips into the mid 40s). I currently have a GTX 970 from EVGA and am considering the following:

- Get a second GTX 970 from EVGA (probably the most expensive option)

- Look for a good deal on a used 970 under $240 (Found one on Craigslist for $190)

- Buy something like a 1060 6GB or something in that price range from either AMD or NVIDIA

I would wait for new AMD and NIVIDA cards and grab second hand 1080ti.

Overclocked the 970 yet? Reviews say it can squeeze another 10-20% performance after overclocking.

Don't buy more expensive 970s. As long as your current card has enough cooling, a more expensive card will not yield much extra frames (about 2-5%) since they use the same graphics processor.

1060 6gb is not a good choice either. It is only mildly faster than a 970, but the gap gets smaller once both gets overclocked. However, you have to pay the price of a new card.

IMO you need to go for a 980ti. A 1070 will also work if you can find one at a good price (unlikely).

Haven't tried overclocking, I'll try that before I get a new card for sure though.

Nope, there will be tones of 1080ti and 1080 selling their cards for cheap every time a new series is released. The more performance difference, the lower the price, usually around 200 -300 USD.

Nope, I was able to get my 980ti for 500 AUD straight before 1080 released.

Depends on how many people bought 1080ti, and how good the next generation top tier is.

If Volta / Navi is like 100% better than 1080ti (unlikely scenario) and many people bought 1080ti on launch, 1080ti is going to be dirt cheap.

If Volta / Navi is like 100% better than 1080ti (unlikely scenario) but not many people bought 1080ti on launch, its going to be cheap enough but not dirt cheap.

If Volta / Navi is marginally better than 1080ti, price will be pretty high regardless of how many people bought 1080ti on launch.
