Increasing processor count in VirtualBox?

I'm trying to create a new virtual machine in VirtualBox, but as you can see in the screenshots, I am unable to add more processors to my VM, as the processors slider is grayed out. For some background, I've worked with VMware ESXi quite a bit in the past, but I'm new to VirtualBox. Does anyone have any experience with this and could give me some advice? My PC is running Windows 8.1 64-bit with an FX-6300 and 8GB of RAM. Thanks a lot.

What OS is it running? And does the FX series support virtualization?

I wanted to create a VM for Kali Linux 32-bit. Does the guest OS matter in this case?

It may not support multiple cores. Linux should, but does your CPU support virtualization?

I'm going to assume yes, based on this and the fact that my motherboard has SVM enabled by default.

Check out your BIOS settings and try turning off "Secure VM Management" or whatever. They explained it in the link I gave you.

Disabling SVM didn't change anything for me. I'll keep looking for solutions, thanks.

Do you have the Extension pack installed?

Yeah, although the extension pack doesn't really have anything to do with the CPU; it adds support for USB 2/3 devices, NVMe, etc.

It allows a lot more system level access, so I wanted to see if it would make a difference. Is there a BIOS or VirtualBox update you can install?

I have the latest version of VirtualBox. As for the BIOS, I'm not sure if it's on the latest version, but I don't have much experience in that area and I don't want to risk bricking my motherboard if my PC isn't having any issues.

Well oddly enough, after disabling SVM and turning it back on in the BIOS, I can add more processors to my VM. Not sure what happened, but thanks for your help Zando

That is weird... happy it's fixed though!
