Two Connections, Internet/Networking

Hi!

So, here is the situation.

One of my employees has a computer connected to both my work network and also his own internet connection. Is there any way to disable the internet connection from my work network while still keeping network access over it? That way the only internet that is used goes through his ISP connection. Because of his high data usage he needs to be on a separate connection as data caps are still a thing in NZ.

I'm not looking for alternative solutions, just a way to make THIS work.

Yep, I have a few ideas but I'm looking for others. Always more than one way to do something and it's probably better than mine. My plan was to change networking priorities of the two connections in the advanced network settings, but I'm not sure whether that is necessarily the best solution. Thoughts @Billy_Mays?

If they have an IP on the work network, don't give them a gateway for that network so when they want to go outside of known networks they only pass through their internet gateway rather than through the work one.

Ah, interesting. So just leave the gateway parameter blank. Thanks!

That should be all you need to do. If you want to confirm just check traffic from their IP on your work external router to confirm that it is not trying to be the gateway anyways.

I'd just try to find one that has a 1gb+ file go on his/yours (can't remember which one is slower) and when it's 1gb- it goes on his/yours
