Do you play them?

Would you buy them in the future?

I am a starting indie developer working on an RPG Maker game (without battles) as a story driven game that doesn't require a lot of art to be made. I am a programmer, and enjoy writing stories, but art is difficult for me.

Long story short my game is a more interactive visual novel about fighting demons, and is a remake of a game jam game I had made one time. It aims to retell the story with more freeing options in freedom of movement (as opposed to the C++ type a choice I originally had) and actually acting out the movements helping people think more outside the box when doing things instead of every choice being thrown right at you in the open.

This is just a survey to see what the market is like, how well the game may do, and what kind of people I should market the game to as I develop.

Please comment anything you'd like to say, or any helpful information. I don't have much to say about the game besides what I listed above and that I am using RPG Maker MV.

5.5, too much talking sometimes which bores me like hell, or being unable to skip some dialogues is a big no-no for me, not having that much of stuff to do etc...

tho I still enjoying playing some of 'em but  still those points really annoy the shit outta me

I understand completely. I bought MGS:V Phantom Pain and I'd love to get into it but the introduction is so slow I was honestly falling asleep, as I was playing bouncing between being Conscious and asleep. Can't wait to get to the actual game though.

GTA is not and has never been an RPG. There is no role playing, you play as whatever character the story needs. Even claiming it has RPG elements is highly dubious at best: There is no character progression just look items and very slight bump in character stats.

But that being said RPG maker games can be great. One of my favorite games ever is an RPG maker game: To the moon.

I would say GTA is an RPG with the following links being evidence:

http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/272606201/Grand_Theft_Auto_3_Steam_PC_Role_Playing_Game.html

https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/634490-grand-theft-auto-v/67870153

Though GTA has poor character progression according to you, that could be the intent of the writer, or simply poor writing all together depending on how you look at it.

However that's not the topic of the discussion; This thread is about learning what people think of RPG Maker games.

Thank you for the link about To the Moon. I will check it out to see why it's fun to you. If you can discuss a few things that make it great I'd love to hear about it. My first impression would be the art being well done.

To the moon has an extremely nice story and one of the best soundtracks out there. The game is mostly narrative with a few elements of puzzles here and there but it's worth the admission just to go through it's story. For the record I mostly dislike history driven games because I rarely think any story in videogames is particularly well thought out or remarkable but well as always your mileage might vary.

Yeah, I watched a full play through and it was phenomenal. Noting foreshadowing, symbolism, motifs, and many other great literary techniques shakespeare used.

A maker of rpg games, name is remarkably self explanatory xD

In all seriousness is a program to create 16 bit era JRPG style games. It's usually on sale on steam and includes several pallets of appropriate sprite assets, midi music and even some basic combat system and dialogue tree editors, some versions also have underlying script editing and deeper control to create more full featured games.

It's been around for a really long time and it's very famous for people who create and release several games of dubious quality and subject matter so to speak, some of them that have found themselves in Steam releases as full blown game titles when so many of them are basically just a very small step above amateur mods.

But as I mentioned, there's actually really rather good titles that were created like To the moon, Hello? Hell...o? among others.

Basically what Misanthrope stated. It's an easy to use game making software. Here's a link to the latest version of the software on Steam:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/363890/RPG_Maker_MV/

It should be pretty self explanitory in what it does as ... they have to get you to buy it don't they?
