Okay so my brother is getting a new laptop for gaming and i presume some work as well (mainly gaming tho) and i would like to hear some good recommendations i could give him.

Currently he is considering a Asus G750jh, personally i don't know a whole lot about laptops since i own a PC and thus only ever cared about their hardware.

the price for a Asus g750jh is 1699€ here (Finland) and i am assuming the price range that lower or the same, is there anything he should know of it, i know he wants 1080P @60Hz (more if you can) at the very least 500Gb of HDD storage and an SSD (120 to 250Gb).

Personally i think the 780M w 4Gb of Vram is overkill (maybe i am just jelly with my 7950). But that aside is there anything better out there somewhere .

also he uses the will need a Bluray drive since he uses his current laptop to display it on a TV (HDMI required then). the only worry i have about his laptop of choice is that the CPU is slow (@ 3.4Ghz turbo) and only has 6Mb cache, wich is sort of equivalent to my I5 3570K as the laptop has an I7 4700HQ. (i do realize it is a laptop but can the CPU be any faster?)

Cooling wise it really doesn't matter unless the fire department needs to be handy, he already has a cooling platform for his current one not to mention he doesn't hold the laptop on his lap when it is in use.

The interface (keyboard and mouse pad/touch pad/alien device) doesn't need to be extremely advanced because he uses a separate mouse and Keyboard.

Basically is there anything that rivals the G750jh at the same pricepoint, or any for that matter.

Spoiler

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

a 7850 out performs a 780m by a smidge. so yes, the amount of vram is overkill for the performance of the GPU.

what do you mean, is there any laptops out there with a 7850 that could fit the price range, i am just wondering what smidge means.

msi gs70 stealth

wouldn't that GPU be slower than the 780M, and isn't the CPU clocked lower?

the ASUS is really not ideal for work or gaming on the go the weight is quite a lot at about 10 pounds

well his idea of work and gaming on the go is work and gaming in another building other that his house. his current laptop is a ASUS ROG with a dualcore i2, 4Gb ram, 512Mb Vram adn i weigsh like a syn (my opinnion is about 3,5 Kilos) the new one is about the same if i recall correctly, so weight is no problem.

All i can add is that it doesn't need to be thin or light, performance is pretty much all that maters, looks are secondary.

I dont think this GPU is that much slower. CPU turbos upto 3.4

all i could fin was that the CPU was set to 2.4, well if that's the case i would like to know how much slower the GTX765M is versus the 780M. I just thought that the laptop could have a CPU with 8Mb cache and maybe even +2 cores with that downgrade, at least that is my opinion for going from a 780 to a 760. I will ask him, see what he thinks, he did tell me to check what he was buying but i am not going to tell him to change to something i don't know too much about.

Sorry, it means by a small amount. the "m" edition of gpus are always slower than the desktop versions. So the 780m is alot slower than the 780 desktop version. The 7850 desktop version is about the same speed as a 780m. Just wanted to let you know in terms of performance, due to your brother wanting a ton of performance.

Well i was just wondering if the are any laptops with PC grade parts, such as the 7850 since you mentioned it.

The only thing you could do if you wanted more performance is to get a laptop with dual GPUs. i dont know of any solution because the 780m is probably the highest performing laptop GPU there is, as of now.
