Modular Mic on Mod mic 5 causing static! Help!

I have a mod mic 5, which had been working perfectly until now. When I plug in the modular mute that comes with the mod mic (which usually works like how its SUPPOSE TO) the mic starts making a static noise when the mute is very gently touched or touched aggressively that is very noticeable according to my few friends that I have. After awhile the mic would just completely mute itself without me even touching the mute. Is there any way to fix this?
