I recently built a new pc and bought a Zalman zm-mic 1 micropfone. It worked for a while and now there is so much extra noise that you cant hear anything. Im using the on-board audio on asus z170i motherboard. Is there a chance that the problem is in the motherboard or is it just the mic?

Hey @Nikke96

Thanks for supporting ModMic. Generally extra noise can come from a few places.

0) You have "mic boost" or AGC on and its cranking your volume higher than it should be.... check that first.

1) Damage to the mic. Whether it is a wire or the capsule or the connector, a short can create loud crackling or even add background hum.

2) Dirty mic ports/tip. Clean those ports! ... don't use water :P. Same goes for the tip of the 3.5mm connector.

3) EMI from your system. Your fans, PSU, motherboard, etc are all throwing off all kinds of electronic interference that screws with audio. For a low cost you can use a USB adapter that will have a filter that gets rid of most or all of this noise (usually). We sell one at ModMic, which means quality control, but if you want to risk it - we recommend the Syba USB adapter on Amazon that will save you a few dollars.

Believe me, we want your sale, but we don't want you to buy the ModMic and realize that it has the same problem. Any mic you plug with a 3.5mm adapter directly into your PC is likely to pick up some background noise, sometimes its a LOT of background noise and requires a USB or even an external soundcard to get rid of.

So make sure to check the above 4 items and see if it makes any difference, and don't forget, if anyone has any questions about ModMic you can always reach me here or just drop our customer service a line. Our support is part of what makes the difference between us and any 'competition' out there! :)
