I only play game and didn't do any productivity work so I am considering 7700k and 6700k.

Planning to buy a ultrawide monitor(2560x1080).

So I heard the thermal issue for 7700k and will 6700k be a better choice in this small case?

  • CPU
    Ryzen 7 3700x
  • Motherboard
    MSI B450M Mortar Max
  • RAM
    Klevv Bolt X 3600mhz CL18 overclocked to 3600mhz CL18 @ 1.35V. (latency 67 ns)
  • GPU
    Gigabyte Windforce GTX 1080
  • Case
Fractal Design Define Mini C Windowed
  • Storage
1TB HDD from Toshiba, 250 gb Samsung 850 evo, 2TB Western Digital SN750
  • PSU
    Superflower Eco Silver 600W
  • Display(s)
    Dell U2417H
  • Cooling
Arctic freezer 34 esports duo, Arctic P12

As for gaming and only gaming i7 is too much get an i5 7600k since games cant use more threads at least by the time im writing this. So the i5 has 4 cores and threads and most games use max 4 threads,so u dont get performance from the i7. I say get the i5 much better choice for gaming :).

Dude both are poor choices for a node 202.  Take it from me, I used it with a 6700k for several months and it only got decent OC's when I used an H80i.  Get a 1600 or 1700 instead, the lower tdp is FAR more suited to such a small case.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Destiny 2 creators are claiming the game will use every core on your cpu.  i5's will be dead very, very soon.

Besides, a locked 7700 (non k) will outperform a i5 7600k @4.9ghz while kicking out less than half the heat

Doesn't matter, they are setting a standard and other triple A games will follow.  Pretty soon any big budget game will be running as many cores as possible.

Think about it.  Intel AND amd are pushing cores like crazy and they will work with developers to get those cores used.  Even if intel pushes old customers away and forces them to buy stuff with more cores they will do it as it means way more modern cpu sales.

Does have a point, even the games i am playing now are starting to use more than 4 threads. only like 3 games so far but they didn't use to use up more than 3

but from what I see at Bitwit youtube channel the thermal of ryzen is worst.

He used AIO and still hit 85C in node 202 where in his previous I7 rig(same node202 ) he can keep cpu at 79 (if not mistaken) using air cooling

edit:my mistake, ryzen was 85C using cryorig c7 and 6700k was 86 using noctua nh l9i

GTA 5 used all my 8 threads in 6700HQ and I saw some reviews mentioned i7 has better 1% and 0.1% low than i5

7700k has heat issue so get a 6700k

:(In my region 7700k is 25 bucks cheaper though. If I keep them both at 4.4ghz would the thermal be identical?
