Types.

1) how they fit. Traditional or over ear(the cable goes over the ear). Overears have better fit but are more difficult to put in your ears.

2) Drivers. Dynamic or armature. As a general rule armature drivers are better at high and mid frequencies, while dynamic at lows (bass). There is a techquicky video about it, its called driver types.

3) Tunning. Analyticsl or "fun". Analytical headphones intend to produce sound as accuratly as possibly, while "fun" headphones distort the music to make it sound  more " fun and enjoyable". Both have a right to exist, but in the under 100  bucks price range, analytical headphones are pretty much always better.

.Brands

You should always buy from a reputable brend, but always read the reviews. Here is a list of trusted headphone manufacturers:Audio technica, Senheiser, Fostex, 1more, philips, sony, Koss, pioneer and Hifiman there are a few more that i cant remember now.

If say your price range it would be easier for us to reccomend you something.

I am rocking the Marshall Mode and a love'em.

They have a good fit and sound smooth without shrill treble. The wire is nice and doesn't tangle as well. Cheaper earphones usually come with tangly wires that make a lot of noise when bounced around.

I think it's a bargain for $35 on amazon.

If you want to get the absolute best bang for your buck then you have to order from China and wait ~ 2 months for shipping. You'll be spending somewhere around 10~20$ on a good pair of earphones.

Look for the KZ ED7 (some people like the ED9...but they sound like shrill garbage to me), ATE and ZS3. The Xiaomi Piston basic or Hybrid are good too.
