I posted this on Minecraft forums as well but usually I get quick helpful responses on this forum so I thought i'd ask here too.

So my friend has the same exact set up as me. Same router and all that. I gave him a static IP then portforawrded on that IP MANY times yet I still can't join his server. He can join my server just fine but even after doing the SAME EXACT process like 5 times now, I still can't connect to his server. What's the problem? Only serious difference I can see is that he has Windows 10 and I have 8.1.

If he can join my server I see no reason why I can't join his. I absolutely need him to host because he has a much more powerful PC and I'd like to not have to be the one to host modpacks because my framerate is hit too hard to play.

Side note: I just realized his dumbass has his home wifi enabled as guest on the windows firewall. If this could be the problem I need to know how to change this.

pretty much we might have a 3rd or 4th person join but it's not gonna be a public server.

did he also add a rule for that in the windows firewall?
what mc version?
some routers, like mine, just hate everyone and everything and wont work with port forwarding no matter the settings.
simplest worst case fix would be hamachi or a similar tunneling service

Mc version really doesn't matter.

No I don't even know how to mess with the windows firewall

He has literally the exact same router as me. Same model and everything.

Try to disable windows firewall on his PC and see if it works

motherfucker it's his windows firewall. He set his home wifi as public so rules are super strict and ig it was blocking the connection. Now how do I switch his home wifi from guest to private?

Isn't that ISP dependent? Once wanted to do the same, but the option wasn't avaible. So I contacted my ISP and they unlocked the option to port-forward.

Some ISPs won't let you do that unless you contact them.
