a few networking questions

question number 1:

right now I have this Wireless adapter - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127272 ... and it really doesn't get the job done, it throttles my 8 mb/s internet down to 2 or 3 mb/ps and when my friend came over with his PCI-E card and I tried it out, I was getting up to 7 or 8 mb/s like i should be... would it be more worthwhile to get a PCI-E card? if so, which one (please nothing too extreme in price).

Question number 2:

My router is probable about 26 feet from my router, would it be better to run a CAT-5E cable from my modem, down into my basement then back up into my floor to my computer instead of using wireless?

Yes Ethernet all the way!. lower ping, stable connection.

Ethernet has a signal limit of around  100 meters so you are fine :P

okay and should I go CAT-5E or CAT-6

From a home user there is really no difference, go with the good old Cat 5E

okay thanks, and you're sure that about 50ft of cable won't screw up the connection?

15-16 meters of Ethernet is well within the 100meter spec of Ethernet. don't worry :)

(328ft = 100m)

wow, okay so there won't be any latency impact?

Its electrical signals, Part of the Electro-Magnetic Spectrum so it travels at the speed of light (299 792 458 metres per second). so you wouldn't notice between 1-100M anyway haha :P

oh wow haha, also, if I were to run it the same route my Cable wire is run, would that affect it?

No

okay, and I have the tools to make the Cat-5E myself, like to cut the wire and put the connector on and stuff, would it be better to do it this way or buy it premade
