With ethereum mining taking over the GPU industry and making prices rise extremely high, how do I go about buying an upgrade? I want something around the performance of a GTX 1070 or GTX 980Ti.

Should I:

Wait for vega's GTX 1070 competitor?

Buy a used GTX 1070/980Ti now?

Or something else?

i like linux

As i said in a previous thread, i'll also say here. A new batch of 1070's and RX570/RX580's is about to come out (approx. 2 weeks) and when that happens, PROBABLY most of the 1060 and 1070 miners will switch or at least other people will use the previously mentioned ones instead of the ones they are using today and will try to get rid of the old ones ASAP, so if you've got time, just check the used market daily and you'll probably end up with a bargain.

Don't forget to quote when replying to me

The least expensive one I can find is $350, good deal?

Will they become cheaper for sure? Or would ethereum just make the prices keep rising?

Yep, if you overclock it you can probably get performance that is close to a 1080 FE. Very good deal!

what gpu u currently have?

I won't mind waiting 3-4 months for a vega as that would last me 4-5 years.

On the other hand, there is no guarantee that those b*t*h miners will not buy up all the vegas and jack up prices & create stock unavailability etc.

I would rather go for a used 1070 over a 980 Ti. Reason: 980Ti is a power hog compared to the 1070 & power drain  increases with OC.

If i take into account the inflated power cost for the next 3 years due to a oc'd 980Ti, I would take a 1070, save the power bill & replace the 1070 in 3yrs time.
