Hello!

I'm looking for the cheapest possible way of setting up a security camera system and was wondering if I could do it with the hardware I already have lying around: 2 old android phones and 2 raspberry pi's.

I was hoping that I could set up the old android phones as IP cameras and then use a raspberry pi to record the video feeds directly onto external storage / NAS drive.

After doing some research I haven't found an easy way to do this but I'm sure it's possible, any suggestions on how it can be done?

I'll be sure to update this post if I find a solution! Thanks in advance if you have any advice :)

P.S Linus this would make a good video maybe? :')

I have played around with the idea in the past; download a local streaming app to the phone, connect to wifi, open video stream in favorite browser (not sure if vlc etc. work).
Now you have a live feed on the pc/pi, only need to capture it. If vlc opens it you could record it directly as well.

yeah this is a good way to go about it, send a video stream from the phones to vlc player running on the Pis and save it to a local drive or back out of the Pi to a SMB mount
