Bios Updating?

I need to flash my bios due to it not supporting my CPU out of the box (specs in signature) so I asked a local PC store if they could do it in waiting a response from them and I was wondering how to do it because I need to update it to make sure my CPU works fine with it

I do have a laptop (i3-5020u, 8gb ram, Intel HD5500, 500gb storage) would that work to get the lastest bios and do you need to get into the bios to do that? I also have a older Phenom ll x4 925 don't know if it will work but I know the IMC is dead

You need a cpu that does work in it in order to update it.

 

Exactly how you update it will depend on the motherboard, plenty of guides online for various brands though.

It's funny because I just explained how to flash the BIOS on another person's topic. Asus has an EZUpdate Utility that streamlines the process and barely needs and user input, but as @RKRiley said, you'll need another CPU to do so.

I don't know if a Phenom ll x4 925 will work or not

According to some people who tried this online, AM3 socketed CPU's can work with AM3+ motherboards. So the Phenom II x4 925 should work. It's just not backwards compatible. So an AM3+ CPU can not go into an AM3 motherboard since it has an extra pin.

I know but the IMC is dead on it so would I be able to use my laptop to download the bios and use the Phenom to update it?

You mean the IMC is dead on the Phenom CPU? If it is, I wouldn't know how/if this would affect the performance of the BIOS flash. I haven't gone too far into it. Perhaps someone else can chime in and give you a better idea since I don't want to mislead you.

Yes the Phenoms IMC is dead I might be able to get a local PC shop to flash it for me cause I don't want to screw up my system

I understand. If you can go ahead and do that and pay a little bit out of pocket, that would be your best bet. At least then you won't have to worry about it!
