Slow mac

Hi guys,

So my mom has a really old MacBook pro (late 2008) it is quite slow but useable for internet browsing and text writing. But it's pretty slow on those tasks. I don't want to do any gaming on it.

I would like to know if by upgrading ram or the HDD it will be faster or better buy a new one. I already reinstalled the os but the speed gain wasn't much. Thanks for your help. 

Here are the specs

2go 1067mhz ddr3 ram 

2,4 GHz Intel core 2 duo 

Hitachi 250gb 5400 rpm HDD ( HTS543225L9SAO2)

Replace the HDD with SSD ,maybe the CPU has bad cooling,etc?

I'm not sure if apple soldered in their RAM Modules back then, so i would check that first.  I would switch out the HDD with an SSD, even if its a SATA II connection (which i'm pretty sure it is) the SSD will still perform a lot better as well as run cooler and quieter.  If you wanted to save money, you could look for a 7200 RPM HDD 2.5" drive that would still be a decent improvement to what you currently have.  If you could come away with spending less than 200USD, then i'd say its worth it.  Otherwise, id just save up for a new machine

Those models are super easy to upgrade and I agree that you should upgrade the HDD to SSD and the RAM to the max supported (8 GB). It won't be a powerhouse but it will definitely be usable.
