antivirus/malware software?

hey guys I just built my first pc and got windows installed before I left work tonight and was wondering what antivirus software to use. in the past I've always used Norton and its treated me well but I hear it its not that good. I don't want to bog down my fresh new system so recommendations for minim software would be nice thanks in advance

everybody has their own preference.  avast or avg are some of the more popular ones. a lot of people will say the one built into windows combined with malwarebytes is more than enough (which is true as long as you practice same browsing habits and use an ad blocker). Personally i use eset nod32, however, thats not free.

Avast is popular. 

 

I use Kaspersky (paid) and Malwarebytes (free).
