290x vs 970

I'm trying to get a graphics card to upgrade over my aging 750 ti. Unfortunately due to the shitty pricing in my country I can only go used.
I can either get an r9 290x for 160 euro or a zotac gtx 970 for 170 euro. 290x is using the reference cooler tho and temperatures in my country (especially in summer) can get pretty hot. Power supply is a bequiet system power 8 600w.
Any help would be appreciated :)

It depends on Games/Programs that you are using , i personaly think that you should go with gtx 970 for gameing. In some games gtx 970 will outperform r9 290x . But if r9 has is reference card and you are worried aboout hight temperatures go with gtx 970. But if you dont worry and want to spend less money go with r9 290x , there is no big diffrence , arround 3-10fps r9 290x will be abbove 970 in amd optimized titles.
