Oh okay. Sorry if I ask too many questions. I can build a PC but I don't know all the fiddle faddle with the software and such. I thought BIOS needs to be updated and such?

you should upgrade the bios for ryzen cause its new, normally you just copy a file to a usb drive, go to the bios and hit a key, its not hard.

The os is fine.

So, I've finally saved up enough money to upgrade from my old A10-5800k to a Ryzen 5 1500X. My only concern is, what do I do BEFORE switching out all the parts like the mobo, gpu, etc. Do I need to uninstall any drivers? Basically need tips on what to do with the software before changing parts because I don't wanna have to back up all my data and do a fresh install of Windows 10. Any help or guides would be very much appreciated. Cheers!

You will likely have weird issues when a swap like that. That being said i managed to swap my mobo CPU by simply installing the correct drivers and uninstalling old ones though i did have some wierd network issues and other quirks so i ended up reinstalling anyway. If you are sporting an SSD or NVME windows 10 doesnt take long to reinstall and a clean install really isnt THAT big of an issue.

No need to do anything. Windows 10 should just boot in the new hardware just fine. Drivers are only loaded if needed, so extra drivers won't hurt.

Are you sure? My Windows isn't legit. I pirated it. Would it still be fine?

My issue is I don't have a boot drive. I guess I'll need to make one then.

yep it will still work fine, just try booting it. If something goes really wrong, you can also restore backups and do a reinstall.

Oh okay. I'll just back up all my data on my external and have a boot drive ready just in case. Can I have BIOS and an OS in just one boot drive?

IIRC, it's a .rar/.zip file right? Extract to the root of the boot drive, and just mash delete and boot the BIOS file via the UEFI/BIOS menu?

You don't need to pirate Win10 unless the watermark and not being allowed to change the desktop colors annoys you. It's basically free now.

I have done this many times and it works very well with windows 10. The driver system is much better than older versions and this works fine. I have taken a disk installed on a phenom ii system and it boots fine on a 8350 system, a xeon e3 1231 v3 system, a core i3 2100 system and a intel atom system just fine.

I swapped from a 4790k to a 1600 and half the cores were disabled ryzen doesn't play nice with it
