PCI E question

Im not the most computer savvy person in the planet so don't hate. I was wondering if I bought a PCI 3.0 graphics card and put it into 2.0 slot if it would work in general or if it does work will there be any significant ramifications in doing?

PCI 3.0 offers a bandwidth of 16 GiB/s while PCI 2.0 offers a bandwidth of 8 GiB/s. but in actual the transfer rate is not this….

It is about 1 GiB/s (actually, 985 MiB/s) for PCI 3.0 and 0.5 GiB/s (actually, 498 MiB/s) for PIC 2.0.

 

So, it might have a little bit of a performance drop, but it won't be too much.

For future reference the proper and correct format for PCI Express is "PCIe"

Vid cards don't even come close to saturating PCIe 2.0x16 so even if you get a 1080ti it'll work just fine, of course given the question you're likely on old amd so the gpu might be gimped by the cpu. But PCIe 2 will work fine
