I have a corsair air 240 which supports up to 240mm radiators. What is the best cooling loop I can buy in terms of performance?

If your talking about AIO coolers going with a larger 280mm or 360mm rad unit would gain more cooling and lessen noise  by not needing to run fans as fast.

For custom loops that depends on your part selection.

The best aio I've seen for the money is the Arctic freezer, 0 bucks on amazon gets you a push/pull setup with a nice thick radiator.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B013WAY9UQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497274350&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=240mm+arctic+freezer&dpPl=1&dpID=413g7DARHTL&ref=plSrch

17  bucks more gets you some rgb functionality but less fans (only 2)

Finally, cryorig has a great 240mm aio with a little fan on the cpu block.  Its not available for msrp rn unfortunately,  it usually retails around 80-100

Under $150 I don't care about price. Which one has the best benchmarks?

For $90 the Arctic freezer is probably the best deal.  For $150 even check out the nzxt Kraken x52, maximum aesthetics

Which would cool the best. X52, arctic freezer, or a40 ultimate. Also where does the nepton series fall?

If your looking for performance a 280mm rad version would out perform it. A good option is the Karken X61 or X62 unit.
