Asus Hero VI X370 memory support etc.

So i'm thinking getting rid of my MSI Pro Carbon X370 since it has problems with OC'ing and memory speeds and replacing it with Crosshair VI Hero from Asus. My Corsair 16GB 3000Mhz CL15 kit didn't get over 2666Mhz with 16-18-18-38 timings on the MSI board. Do you guys have gotten or seen somebody get that memory kit working at rated speeds with aforementioned Asus board?

Also how is the board in general? Here in Finland it has pretty bad ratings on at least the two biggest retailers sites (2.5/5 and 3/5 stars), something about the boards getting bricked. Was it just early BIOS thing or is it still occurring?

I wouldn't bother, did you get a beta bios for your board? Check out this thread I made:

Just after Ryzen was released, Asus put out a bios that bricked boards it got installed on. No longer an issue.

Your memory is Hynix-based and that's about normal if you got unlucky with the memory controller on your CPU. Hopefully future bios updates will help.

No beta BIOS updates available, i discussed this thru with MSI support, they have no idea and think it's the CPU but it will overclock normally with Ryzen Master. And even if it would work i find MSIs overclocking tools really lacking, i literally get more voltage controls with Ryzen Master (for example SOC voltage). And besides the board is not going to waste, i'm building my fiancé a Ryzen-based gaming computer and she really doesn't need those overclocking capabilities (first gonna try warranty if it helps). Guess i'm gonna get another RAM set and make sure it's Samsung-based this time, and reuse this set to the other computer.

I happen to have both boards you mention, I personally wouldn't pull the trigger yet I had my Gskill rip jaw 32gb x2 @3200MHz running stable @2933MHz on the Pro carbon before I picked up the Hero VI I am running Flare x at its rated speed of 3200MHz on that board no problem I expect to get the Pro Carbon running at its rated speed with the next update as every update from the start got me 1 step closer with the msi board and to be honest I actually like that board better. And as everyone has stated Ryzen loves memory for performance gains.

@mrbilky

Have you heard about the problem i have with the Pro Carbon, every time i try to apply any voltage or clock manually, the CPU locks to 2.2Ghz? Nobody seems to know what is wrong, have i put some setting wrong or something? When i put everything to Auto from UEFI i can overclock with Ryzen Master, but even then with poor results. Vcore drops immediately about 0.1 volts when i try to stress the CPU, i have tried every single LLC setting, nothing fixes it. Helps a little, but doesn't fix. I set 1.45 volts in Ryzen Master and under load HWInfo shows Vcore of ~1.37. Motherboard sensor shows about 1.48 but CPU senses/gets much less. Could it be there is something physically wrong with my motherboard?

I have been following your dilemma unfortunately I won't be of much help as both my builds went smoothly although I did have crazy overclock issues in asus ai suite and will never mess with settings outside of the bios I never did find an answer to my problem with both boards, that being I cannot run 2 GPU's on either board, I've chalked it up to the platform being new and hopefully it will work itself out with updates. I think in you case I would RMA the board as it may very well hold the problem at least you'll knock 1 possibility off the list. Good luck and let us know how you make out the platform has its kinks but it is a great system when working right and it keeps getting better over time. I spent the money to get Ryzen ready RAM only because I could but it is a fact that it runs as advertised at least the flare x does.

Oh thanks @stealth80.

Did some digging, and oh boy what a mess this MSI BIOS is. Apparently this same problem has been going on since at least version 1.30 (current 1.50). For some people Game Boost fixes it, for some it causes it, reflashing the same BIOS has helped some, going back one version has helped few etc. :D So i guess i'm not gonna do anything yet, let's see how MSI is going to react to this since they should really be aware of the problem.

By the way am i missing something or is this MSI BIOS really so limited i can't even change SOC voltage? Tried to look everywhere but the only place i can change it at the moment is Ryzen Master and i really would like to get rid of it.

If I remember correctly SoC voltage is referred to as NBridge on the Pro Carbon it is not stated as SoC its been quite a while since I was in that bios if you go over to msi's forum there was a thread over there that explains it maybe that will help you.

Okay, so MSI rolled out just today 1.63 BIOS, flashed that all hyped up like i finally can overclock that thing but no, still 2.2Ghz. Really annoying, although overclocking tools got much better. Any ideas?

Check link that stealth80 posted. By the way the OC problem is apparently affecting other MB manufacturers also, and many SKUs from Ryzen lineup. Guess i just have to wait or get some CPU for loan and send that one to get checked.

Got my RAM running 2800 18-18-18-38, some progress happening with the new BIOS.

Just be patient. AMD is trying to release agesa 1006  on official bios updates before july.

You can also make a fat 32 "restore"drive that can restore a bricked mobo by using microcode flashing if your board wont post after bios flashing.

That"s the only  thing you can due(flashing beta), besides you won't notice a huge jump from 2667mhz to 3000mhz...

check my PC build here: https://valid.x86.fr/jyjc2n

b350 tomhawk arctic h.51 bios, Corsair LPX ram running at 3200mhz

case is a 35$ Zalman Z3 plus white with a cooler master 10$ (15MIR)hyper t4 cooler

20$ EVGA 450w bt (black cables)

150$ 1060 3gb@2.1ghz
