No. You can only Crossfire graphics cards with the same GPU. The R9 200 series and R9 300 series have different GPUs.

Not entirely true, some of the HD series cards you can crossfire with different models.

For this case though, the R7 and R9 series have to be matched with the same card for crossfire.

PC - CPU Ryzen 5 1600 - GPU Power Color Radeon 5700XT- Motherboard Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming - RAM 16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB - Storage 525GB Crucial MX300 SSD + 120GB Kingston SSD   PSU Corsair CX750M - Cooling Stock - Case White NZXT S340

Peripherals - Mouse Logitech G502 Wireless - Keyboard Logitech G915 TKL  Headset Razer Kraken Pro V2's - Displays 2x Acer 24" GF246(1080p, 75hz, Freesync) Steering Wheel & Pedals Logitech G29 & Shifter

You can Crossfire graphics cards with the same GPU. It doesn't have to be the same exact card though.

It doesn't have to be same GPU, different GPU like 460 and 470 can crossfire between each other.

They must be same architecture to Crossfire

The RX 460 and RX 470 have the same GPU. GPU does not equal graphics card.

What?

The 290 and 390 are the same card. The 380 is the same card as the 285, not the 290.

The 460 and 470 are based off the same chip, they are not the same card. The 460 is a cut down 470. Likewise, the 290 and 390X wouldn't work. The 390 is a direct re-badge of the 290.

There's no reason in principle why this shouldn't work, aside from AMD disabling it in the driver or BIOS.

Edit apparently my text is too small, I thought OP said 390, sorry. No you cannot.

Uhhhh apart from the 380X and Fiji, it didn't have any new GPUs...
