Redoing old computer

Hey all. I'm taking an old Dell Optiplex 755 and modding it into a gaming machine. I wanted to know what the absolute best lga755 socket processor is. I'm looking at the Xeon X3220 or the Core2 X6800. I'm taking all suggestions.

I'm not looking to mod the socket or anything, I just want to know the best processor (on a budget)

You're going to be limiting yourself with that motherboard. What size OptiPlex is it? I'm curious.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

Sorry about the late reply. It's a desktop (not the mini tower) 755

You're going to need a low profile GPU then. Get the best CPU you can and the best GPU you can. It will do, but probably not the best.

Best LGA 775 CPU is the core 2 Quad Q9650.

Problem is it's expensive.

If you can get ahold of a Xeon x5650 and perform the LGA 771 socket mod on it, it will perform just as well as a Q9650 for much less smoney.

Don't you mean Xeon x5450? 5650 is lga1366. You are referring to the 775 to 771 mod.
