Ok,

So I am pretty set that a 32 16:9 monitor is right for me and my gaming needs.

Currently I use a 27 16:9, the excellent ROG Swift PG278Q Gaming Monitor . It has a response time of 1ms, and as far as I can find out an input lag of around 10ms.

High refresh rates are less important to me as the main game I play, Squad can only run at about 75fps on my rig in 1440p.

I have found these, Dell UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 4K Monitor (UP3216Q) . I would be happy in 4K at 60Hz - as long as the monitor performs really fast. The response time is rated at 6ms, but the input lag is the same as the ROG swift, 10ms.

My question is what effect this would practically have in terms of my raw FPS game performance? I am thinking the overall effect will be it is 'slower', but is that actually noticeable in game? Consider me a very keen player, just not so talented.

I have no issue losing G-sync, the Dell is by far the more superior screen in terms of colour accuracy, IPS over TN etc.

Be really interested if anyone has some experience of this kind of change?

Are you sure?you'r getting 75 fps at 1440,wonder how much you would get at 4k?by the way, that monitor(current one)is awesome expect that is has tn panel. You shouldn't upgrade.

Yes it's fine, I limit my FS to the min that full server, across all Squad maps can deliver. Unlimited I get 75fps-110fps. Going to 4K will cost me around 10-15fps max. if that's not the case then I can run the Dell at 1440p I guess.

the 32 screen vs the 27 screen is a major gain for me etc.

take a read of what response time is

cheers, I read thru that a while back. But will re-read.

I kind of understand it, but I am looking for people with actual experience of this kind of upgrade in FPS games to give me their view.

The Dell is alot of money, I don't care so much about value I am driven by getting the best I can for what I do, which is play alot of Squad.

3840×2160 is 2.25 times as many pixels as 2560×1440, so the framerate will be roughly 1 / 2.25 times as much (75 fps -> 33 fps), assuming you keep all the settings the same. But you can turn off things like anti-aliasing which should improve framerate a lot, and it's not really needed at that resolution.

understood, it's fine I currently limit my fps so there's plenty in the tank for if I go with the Dell.

Well after much searching, I think I found my final solution (for now).

https://www.asus.com/uk/Monitors/PB328Q/

It's a fantastic monitor, the size is perfect for me and it's built well.

My only concern's were it's slightly higher input lag than my ROG Swift, and it's reported ghosting.

I havn't noticed any ghosting and the no increased lag. I even tested with a couple of online lag testing tools and its pretty much the same results as before.

The quality of the VA over TN, is a thing.

Granted if I was playing at 144hz, 1440p etc it won't perform as well as the ROG Swift. But i'm not so it doesn't matter, Squad is the game I play and 75Hz constant is a great way to play.
