What she has problems with Webpages very slow opening, takes long time to load word, and other programs

i have mid tower case and 500watt 80+ white evga power supply

im thinking getting her a i3 7100 with 8gb ram i dont think she'll need any dedicated graphics like a 1030 since mostly web surfing and typing

but im wondering should i just get her an ssd for it or try to do m.2 would programs be that much faster with m.2

her existing machine cant be upgraded prebuilt lenovo about 3-4 years old and mobo doesn't have any spare fan headers or even another sata port

but yea what you think would be best for her

edit: she had windows 7 on it and the did a forced upgrade to windows 10 i think thats what slowed it down

not much difference with an m2, also im pretty sure the 7100 has integrated graphics and id reccomend using the integrated graphics over a 1030

Omega-  I5 6600k | Gigabyte GTX 1060 | Cougar Panzer | DDR4 16GB 3000MHz | MSI Z170 Gaming M5

               EVGA 650 GQ | AOC 60Hz Freesync Panels x2 | AOC 144hz Freesync Panel x1

Epsilon- I7 2700k | Asus GTX 970 | Corsair 780t | DDR3 8GB 1600MHz | EVGA Z68 FTW Mobo

               Corsair 750W G2 | Acer R240HY x2

Upsilon- i7 5500u | 6GB DDR3 | 720p 60Hz panel

Don't buy an i3. Just get a Pentium G4560 instead as that is a dual core cpu with hyperthreading. As for M.2 versus SATA it will be the same. Only an NVMe SSD would offer higher speeds but it wouldn't be needed for a pc like this.

Well yeah: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-G4560-vs-Intel-Core-i3-7100/3892vs3891 You're better off paying less for a little bit less performance.

That website isn't a great way to compare cpu's. Much better to look at an actual review.

Nah, CPUBoss is the website that is awful to compare CPUs. CPU user benchmark is fine. Many people recommend it

price to performance looks like the g4560 is best option she has a 500gb hdd shes only using 150gb-180gb of it so i think ill just drop a 500gb ssd and take out the hdd that should be plenty and increase the speed of applications if i remember it has an amd chip at like 2.6ghz or something, no real budget i have the spare power supply and case just to save her some cash but she might get this white one i showed her she asked " why are they all black boxes" lol or find a nice looking one for her office

Benchmarks don't show real world performance though. There will be very little difference (Not even noticeable) between the Pentium and i3 in day to day usage for what the op's mum is going to be doing.

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-G4560-vs-Intel-Core-i3-7100/3892vs3891

Single core performance:

G4560: 103 pts (avg)

i3 7100: 114 pts (avg)

Single core performance: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Faq/What-is-single-core-integer-speed/72 : "The majority of typical desktop processing uses just a single integer core."

Since there's not much of a difference between the G4560 and the 7100 in therms of single core performance, ofc it's not going to impact the performance that much tbh. :P

The G4560 is probably the best value cpu on the market. Definitely more than enough for the op's mum.
