BIOS Flash

Hello there!

Basically, I want to upgrade my rig to an i7 3770 paired with GTX 970. I swooped up a deal for a Biostar H61MGV3 for $20. However, since it's H61, would I need to update the BIOS? I think so, but can i update it without a 2nd gen cpu installed?

Ask the owner if the BIOS is updated. Are you getting used or new?

It depends.  Did you buy the motherboard used? If you did, it may already have the latest bios version on it.  Only way to know for sure is just put it together and see if you get a POST

Yeah, that looks like it would do the trick.  Removing BIOS chips can be a bit of a pain, just gotta be extremely careful.

Yeh. Asked him. No reply for 2 days already though.

This mind blown, why would you do something like that.

Chance to fail is too high.

 

You could just pay someone / store to lend them the old G620/630 or 2nd gen sandy to update the bios fool proof. with that 5SGD

or just buy it and sell it later, I could find someone selling G550 low as $15-20.

 

I don't understand what in this people mind suggesting to remove and reflash bios with that method.

if you think removing BIOS is just an easy 1-2-3 like removing CPU, hell no.
