So i have a Gigabyte 990FXA-D3 with no VRM heatsink and i wanted to purchase some heatspreaders from ebay. Im looking at purchasing a AMD 8350 and Noctua NH-C14.

From looking at my VRMs they are in a group of 4 so with my heatspreaders can i overlap every VRM or do i need to cut the spreaders to size?

My Rig - Intel 4670K (4.3Ghz) Cooler Noctua NH-C14| Gigabyte Z87X-UD5H | 16GB GSkill 1866MHz | Gigabyte 7970 OC  | Samsung 840 Pro 128GB | Thermaltake Overseer RX-I  | Thermaltake TP Qfan 750w

Brothers rig- AMD FX-6100(4.1 GHz) | Gigabyte 990FXA -D3 | 8GB GSkill 1866MHz | Sapphire 7870 Ghz OC  | Kingston HyperX 3K 120Gb | Antec 900 v3  | Antec Neopower Blue 650w

i woulndt buy that cuz it doesn't have a heat sink on it

If the board is functional then there's no problem. A lot of people put on aftermarket motherboard heat sinks.

why do u want to do this? the motherboard didnt come with a heatsink for a reason it doesnt need it unless u have monitored temps and found them to be unacceptable.

The board comes with a heat sink by default..

@OP I would spring for some tall copper ones.

I was going to upgrade to a 8350 from my Phenom 955 and wanted to OC the 8350 and wasn't sure if my motherboard was upto it hence the question.

The particular motherboard i have is the one pictured in the original post.

The Enzotech MOS-C10 are a little expensive for shipping to aus hence this cheap option.

If everyone keep recommending not to do it i will probably just upgrade to the Intel (more modern motherboard features and upgradability in the future.)

From looking at my VRMs they are in a group of 4 so with my heatspreaders can i overlap every VRM or do i need to cut the spreaders to size?(eg will the electricity of each vrm interfere with each other?)

Also the heat sinks will do almost nothing without a fan directed at them.

Thats why i was thinking about getting the Noctua NH-C14.
